The Collection
The Collection on this website was collected with care and fondness for each and every piece, with a special eye toward acquiring pieces that were old, as opposed to contemporary pieces that imitated earlier artwork. Each piece was acquired while the collector was on travel to several African countries (Botswana, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, to name a few) and from dealers in the United States, Australia, and Amsterdam.
In the early 1970's two Akuaba dolls (once believed to affect fertility) became the first pieces in this collection. The lovely Akuaba dolls started a passion that continued for over thirty years of collecting pieces that seemed to reach out and beckon the collector to invite them home. The main criterion for selecting a piece was first based on appeal to the collector. A secondary consideration was the present day and future value of the object. As you browse through the collection, you will see a vast display of countries represented as well as unique renderings for each piece. Enjoy!
